Highly acclaimed novelist Salley Vickers returns home to her childhood home of The Potteries to share her brand new book, The Librarian.  The author of nine hugely successful novels, including Miss Garnet’s AngelThe Cleaner of Chartres and Cousins as well as two short story collections, the latest, The Boy Who Could See Death (Viking 2015).

Based on a children’s librarian who radically affected Salley’s own childhood and inspired her to become a writer, Sylvia Blackwell, is The Librarian who moves a market town in 1950’s middle England, to take up a challenging position as Children’s Librarian but her job soon becomes compromised by a network of local intrigue.

Salley’s first novel Miss Garnet’s Angel, became an international word-of-mouth bestseller and a favourite among book clubs and reading groups. the Festival is delighted to host this special homecoming event with Salley in Stoke-on-Trent.
